FAQs

Why should I pay someone to do my taxes?

I don’t have to tell you, you know - taxes are complicated. A person can be knocked off their guard with all the recent tax changes in the past few years (some of which, by the way, are set to expire in a few short years). By having a seasoned professional take care of the complicated stuff, you can rest easy knowing every deduction will be addressed and every item will be reported properly.

Do I need to do an amendment?

There are many instances in which you may find yourself needing to amend a tax return that you previously filed. Maybe you’ve received new or updated information, maybe you forgot to include something, or maybe you just received a letter from the IRS. Remember, not all those IRS letters require you to file an amendment - some are just looking for a response from you. Don’t worry, these are things we can help you sort out and get you back on the right track.

Can you give a presentation to my group?

I love educating and empowering people. Learning about taxes may sound like the most boring topic - but I keep things light and fun! I would love to speak with your group to give an overview of tax tips that are relevant to them. We can talk about your group’s specific concerns and I can tailor my presentation so that everyone walks away feeling more confident and capable going into the next tax year.

What happens if I don’t file?

Not everyone has a filing requirement - there are instances in which you may not be required to file a tax return. However, sometimes these situations can be complicated. Before you decide for yourself, reach out and let’s go over the details together to make sure you’re not missing anything. Because, if you don’t file and pay taxes when you are required, you will face penalties and interest and can find yourself in a world of trouble.

Can you help me do my own taxes?

If you don’t want to hand over your entire tax preparation, and feel like you just need assistance with one or two things, reach out and I can give you some guidance. I am limited by IRS ethics rules in the specific help I can provide if I’m not preparing the return myself; but I can always guide you in the right direction or provide an explanation of when certain deductions may apply.

What documentation do I need to get started?

We just need one conversation and a deposit to get the ball rolling. Keep your eye out in January for all the relevant tax forms that are issued that year - 1099s, W2s, 1098s, etc. Often now, these documents are stored in your account on your financial institution’s website instead of mailed to you. After our initial conversation we’ll get an idea of what documents you should be expecting, and once they are all submitted to us, we can get started on your return!
